Who we are

Searches you make

The word finder downloads its word list to your browser and filters it on your device. The letters you type are not sent to us. To make searches easy to bookmark and share, the finder puts your search in the page address (for example /?pattern=a??le). That address is visible to anyone you share it with, and it can appear in your browser history and in the server logs described below if you load or reload the page.

Server logs

When your browser requests a page, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as your IP address, the page address requested, the time, your browser’s user-agent string and the referring page. These logs are used to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose problems. They are kept for a limited period set by the hosting provider and are not used to identify you or build a profile of you.

Cookies and local storage

Five Letter Word Finder itself doesn’t set cookies. It stores two things on your device, neither of which is sent to us: your light or dark theme choice (in your browser’s local storage, under the key theme), and copies of the site’s pages and word lists (in the browser’s cache, through a service worker) so the tools load quickly and work offline. Clearing your browser’s site data removes both. If we add third-party services that use cookies, we will update this policy and our Cookie Policy.

Analytics

We don’t currently use an analytics service. If that changes, this section will be updated first.

Advertising

We don’t currently show advertising. If we add ads in future (we expect to use Google AdSense), this policy will explain how advertising cookies work and how to opt out of personalised ads before they appear.

Emails you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to fix the problem you reported, and we delete correspondence when it’s no longer needed. We never sell or share it.

Children

The site is suitable for general audiences but isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, or to object to how it’s used. Because we don’t run accounts, the only personal data we hold directly is email you send us. For data collected by Google through analytics or advertising, use the Google controls linked above or contact Google. For anything else, email us and we’ll respond within 30 days.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, and it has no user accounts or databases of personal information to breach.

Changes to this policy

We’ll update this page when our practices change, including before we add any new analytics or advertising service, and change the “Last updated” date above.
