How to use the Octordle answer finder
- Pick the word you’re stuck on, Word 1 to Word 8, in the same order as the game’s grids.
- Type the green letters in their spots, the yellow letters under the spot where they were yellow, and the grey letters for that grid.
- Read the list: everyday words come first. Each word keeps its own clues as you switch tabs.
How Octordle works
Octordle is Wordle times eight: you have 13 guesses to find eight five-letter words, and every guess goes into all eight grids at once. It was created by Kenneth Crawford in 2022 and is now published by Britannica. Once a word is solved, its grid stops taking guesses.
What our simulation says about openers
We played 800 simulated Octordle games, each with eight past Wordle answers, using a simple, steady solver. Only the opening plan changed:
| Opening guesses | Solved in 13 or fewer | Average guesses |
|---|---|---|
| RAISE only | 94.4% | 11.6 |
| CRANE, SLOTH | 98.6% | 11.0 |
| CRANE, SLOTH, PUDGY | 99.6% | 11.4 |
With eight words to find, spending two or three guesses on fifteen different common letters almost always pays off. After that, solve the grid with the fewest options left, one at a time.
Octordle tips
- Open with fixed words. Two or three openers with no repeated letters, like CRANE, SLOTH and PUDGY.
- Count your guesses. After three openers you have ten guesses for eight words, so you can afford about two misses.
- Don’t forget doubles. Among past Wordle answers, about three in ten repeat a letter, and Octordle uses the same kind of words.

Frequently asked questions
How many guesses do you get in Octordle?
13, for eight words.
Is this the same as the Quordle helper?
It works the same way, with eight word tabs instead of four. For four words, use the Quordle hint page; for two, the Dordle hint.
Why isn’t the answer in my list?
Check that the grey letters come from the same grid. A letter grey in one grid can still be in another word.
