How to use these hints

The hints go from general to specific. Start with the vowel count and repeated letters: they help you choose a better next guess without spoiling the word. The meaning hint uses a dictionary definition with the answer hidden. The first and last letters narrow it down a lot, and the answer is always last, behind its own button.

The personal hint tool

General hints can repeat what you already know. Type the guesses you’ve made today into the personal hint tool: it colours them exactly as the game did, counts the words that still fit, and each “Give me a hint” tells you something new, such as a letter you haven’t found yet or which letter goes in a spot. It never gives away the last letter, so the final step is always yours. “Suggest my next guess” picks the word that best splits the remaining options.

How Wordle works

You have six tries to guess a five-letter word. After each guess, every tile turns green (right letter, right spot), yellow (in the word, wrong spot) or grey (not in the word). There is one puzzle a day, and it changes at midnight in your own time zone, so this page shows the puzzle for your local date.

Tips for solving Wordle in fewer guesses

  • Open with a word that has common letters, such as E, A, R, O, T, L and S, and no repeats.
  • Use your second guess to test new letters rather than repeat what you already know.
  • Remember letters can repeat: if you’re stuck, consider a double letter like “EE” or “LL”.
  • Answers are usually familiar words. Plurals and past tenses (like “BOXES” or “TAKEN”) are rarely the answer.
  • Learn common patterns, such as words ending in -ER, -LY or -CH. Our five-letter word patterns guide covers the most useful ones.
