How the unscrambler works

Enter your letters in any order. The unscrambler checks every word of the length you choose and keeps those you can spell with your tiles, using each tile once. Type the same letter twice if you have two of it. A ? is a blank tile that can stand for any letter.

  • Five letters is the default. Choose 4, 6 or 7, or All lengths to see every word from 4 to 7 letters, longest first.
  • Common words first is the default, so everyday words are easy to spot. Choose Most points to put the highest-scoring words first, using standard letter-tile values, or A to Z to scan alphabetically.
  • Tap a word to copy it, or copy the whole list.

Letter points

The small number on each result is the sum of its letters’ face values. Board bonuses aren’t included, and a blank tile normally scores zero.

Unscrambler or word finder?

Use the unscrambler when you have a fixed set of letters and want to know what they spell. Use the five letter word finder when you know where some letters go, or which letters are ruled out. For Wordle-style colour clues, the Wordle solver is quicker.

Frequently asked questions

How many letters can I enter?

Up to 15, including blanks. Words are 4 to 7 letters long, so extra letters simply give you more options.

Can I use a letter more than once?

Only as many times as you type it. Enter EE if you have two Es. A blank (?) can fill in for any missing letter.

Why is a word I expected missing?

The unscrambler uses the public-domain ENABLE list plus dictionary words from SCOWL. Games use their own lists, so a word valid in one game may be missing here, and the other way round.
